The border issue remains a top priority for many American citizens, as the numbers continue to paint a dire picture.
Though the crisis has been raging for nearly a year now, most people say the southern border situation hasn’t improved at all.
And now, the latest report is even more bad news for the Biden administration.
While President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris vowed to address the crisis last year, Republicans argue that nothing has been done.
For example, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported new highs in encounters and arrests during the last six months of 2021.
And December was one of the worst on record.
For December 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported 135,040 unique individuals encountered, a 5% jump compared to November.
All told, there were 178,840 encounters, and that’s a concerning number (via The Daily Wire):
The 178,840 illegal border crossings for December 2021 was higher than the December totals from 2020, 2019, and 2018 combined when there was a total of 175,353 illegal border crossings.
During the Donald Trump administration, encounter and arrest numbers declined.
But Joe Biden’s removal of many Trump policies, most notably the Remain in Mexico program, caused sudden jumps in illegal activity.
Former acting CBP commissioner and Heritage visiting fellow Mark Morgan says “Biden has failed even by his own basic measure.”
In 12 months, CBP recorded more than two million encounters along the southwest border, a shocking and historic number.
But that number does not include an estimated 600,000 or more ‘got-aways,’ individuals who cross the border illegally but which Border Patrol is unable to detain.
And then there are the ‘turn-backs,’ those who make an effort to cross the border but eventually give up and return to their country of origin. Under Biden, that number was around 400,000.
All told, Morgan claims that so far in Biden’s tenure, over three million people have tried to illegally enter America.
This deluge of illegal activity at the border is one of the primary reasons for Biden’s flagging poll numbers, according to many surveys.
And former acting ICE director Tom Homan pinned the blame on Biden removing Trump’s policies, which in his opinion were working.

There’s also the humanitarian angle to this, argues Homan:
And Joe Biden comes in office, destroys all his policies. And what’s the result?
Under President Trump last year, there was a total of 254 migrants died crossing that border —the first year under President Biden, that is more than doubled to 557. That’s a 119% increase…
Millions of Americans believe the Biden administration is not only solely responsible for the border crisis, but is doing almost nothing to fix the situation.
And December’s concerning statistics seem to prove that theory.
Right now, the border crisis keeps raging on and if Biden wants to climb back up the approval rankings, he’ll have to make some strong moves.
