Democrats panicked after Sen. Joe Manchin flat out refused to vote for Biden’s spending bill. Progressives slammed the moderate online.
But the worst response might have come from the White House itself. Press secretary Jen Psaki (not Joe Biden) released a statement insulting and criticizing Manchin, in what appeared to be an ugly mischaracterization of the West Virginia senator.
Speculation has abounded over the future of Joe Manchin’s career. It’s clear that, for now, many Democrats are against him (although I’m sure plenty of moderates are secretly thankful for his brave stance). It is giving rise to whether or not he will continue with this corrupt party.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) may reportedly become an independent after the Biden administration on Sunday accused the senator of disloyalty…
Manchin is from West Virginia, a red state that Biden lost in 2020 by nearly 40 points.
“I’m from West Virginia,” he said Monday. “I’m not from where they’re [Democrats] from, and they can just beat the living crap out of people and think they’ll be submissive, period.”
Even if Manchin does make this move, the report claims he may become an independent but still caucus with the Democrats, just like Bernie Sanders. Which would not substantially change the playing field in Congress.
After this news came out, one top Republican offered Manchin an invitation.
From Fox News:
“I was shocked at the vitriol,” [Mitch] McConnell added. “And basically it seemed to me that they were calling Sen. Manchin a liar. I think that was not smart. This is a 50/50 Senate. It’s going to be 50/50 for another year, and believe me, this is not how I would handle a disappointing vote like that.”
“He doesn’t fit well over there, but that is a decision ultimately that he has to make. We certainly welcome him to join us if he was so inclined,” McConnell said.
After rumors spread that Joe Manchin might leave the Democratic Party, Mitch McConnell suggested he’d be welcomed in the GOP, if he was so “inclined.” It seems rumors have restarted that suggest Manchin could leave the Democrats and become an independent (though he’d caucus with the Democrats come voting time).
If Manchin actually switched to the GOP, Republicans would regain control of the Senate, which would make waves on Capitol Hill.
And this isn’t the first time people have speculated over Manchin’s affiliation. Back when he first criticized Biden’s agenda, people thought he’d leave the Democratic Party. Over the summer, it seems he was floating this, after progressives sent protestors to harass him and his family.

Now, those rumors are firing up again, after Manchin single-handedly killed Biden’s toxic spending bill. Democrats are making their opinions about Manchin known—and they’re not being nice.
But would Manchin go all the way and join the GOP? That might sound like a logical move to most Americans. But it would be a huge risk back at home.
Manchin has stated he is a Democrat through and through, and is seems he’s worried about alienating those West Virginia Democrats who strongly support him. Then again, if the party continues to lurch to the far left, he might not have much of a choice.
