McConaughey Shakes Up Texas Race In New Poll – The Actor Leads In Head To Heads But 3-Way Race Goes To Abbott

The 2022 election will decide more than just Congress. Numerous state races will be going on. Legislatures will be reshaped, as well as city councils and mayoral offices. And that includes governor seats. And one that the country is watching is the race for Texas governor.

Eyebrows raised when it was announced that two-time Democrat loser, Francis O’Rourke would run against Gov. Abbott. O’Rourke, who calls himself Beto, has lost two big races recently. But a new poll appears to be shaking the race up.

From The Washington Examiner:

In head-to-head matchups, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott leads Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke in next year’s governor’s race in the Lone Star State. But actor and Texas native Matthew McConaughey, who is reportedly weighing a bid for governor, leads them both, according to a Dallas Morning News -University of Texas at Tyler poll released Sunday. But in a three-way race, voters prefer Abbott.

Although the race is a year away, a poll has come out to gauge the Texas governorship. If actor Matthew McConaughey runs for governor, he has a good chance at winning. But in a three-way matchup, Abbott beats both McConaughey and O’Rourke.

Almost all the headlines in the media are touting McConaughey’s big poll victory over current GOP Governor Greg Abbott. But the way McConaughey has been playing it, it seems just as likely that he’ll run third party because he doesn’t seem to fit the mold of a Republican or a Democrat in Texas.

So don’t fret over the numbers showing Abbott with a deficit currently. No one really knows which way McConaughey will go, and it’s hard to even ask the right question to voters in that situation. Things will be much clearer when the actor makes it clear if he’s running and which banner he’ll be running under.

People have been much clearer about the Democrat—many are already slamming O’Rourke’s entry into the race. He lost to Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018, despite massive support from outside donors. After that embarrassing loss, he decided to run for president. He bowed out to give Biden a bump (but never became Joe’s gun control czar).

Plenty of people have wondered if McConaughey would throw his hat into the ring. The actor is considered liberal but is largely patriotic and pro-Texas. If he ran, would he be a moderate independent? Chances are, he would have to lean hard-left if he joined the Democratic Party.

A primary race between O’Rourke and McConaughey would be very entertaining. How fast would O’Rourke lose to a popular person like McConaughey?

Abbott might have his detractors, but he has led the state as a strong, proud conservative. As Texas becomes redder, not even the famed actor might have a chance.
