Sen. Mitt Romney was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital for what he described as “a lot of stitches” around his eye after falling over the weekend.
“I’m doing better,” the Utah Republican said. “I took a fall. I took a fall, knocked me unconscious, but I’m doing better.”
He said he was visiting his grandchildren in Boston when it happened and that he did not spend the night in the hospital.
CNN’s Manu Raju reported: “Mitt Romney, who had bruised eyes and wounds on his lips, told us: “I took a fall” while visiting his grandkids in Boston this weekend. He said he was knocked “unconscious but I’m doing better.” He said he was taken to the hospital and “had a lot of stitches.”
“Romney wouldn’t say what he was doing when he fell but he joked: “Oh my goodness. I went to CPAC. That was a problem.”
Speaking of CPAC, Jason Chaffetz was there and took a swipe at Mitt and his secret Twitter account.
“My name is Jason Chaffetz, I’m from Utah and I am not Mitt Romney,” Chaffetz said. “If you’re looking for Pierre Delecto, you need to go down the hall, go left, and then just keep going left until, well, just keep going left. That’s where you’ll find him.”
