Remember when Barack Obama could do no wrong? Back when he was in office, the media praised their “golden boy,” as God’s gift to democracy. But much has changed since he left office in 2017. And it seems like good old Barry isn’t as sharp as he used to be.
These days, he’s playing second banana to a failed presidency gasping for breath. As Biden fails all over the place, Obama is trying to pick up the pieces. He even flew to the controversial COP26 conference to prop up the left’s climate agenda.
Yet he could not escape the curse of the Biden—making an obvious, seemingly uneducated gaffe. From Fox News:
Former President Barack Obama mixed up Scotland and Ireland while addressing the COP26 conference in Glasgow on Monday.
Toward the end of his speech at the United Nations climate change event held this year in the Scottish city, Obama referred to the location by a common nickname for the wrong country.
“Since we’re in the Emerald Isles here, let me quote the bard, William Shakespeare,” Obama said. “‘What wound,’ he writes, ‘did ever heal but by degrees.’”
Ouch. Talk about a faux pas. Obama called Scotland—a land that is not an island—the “Emerald Isle.” This term is used to describe Ireland, a country that is not Scotland and in fact an island. This is an embarrassing and obvious gaffe—one we would have heard come out of Biden’s mouth.
Oh, and William Shakespeare is not from the Emerald Isles, Barry.

This is even more upsetting, considering this probably was written down in prepared remarks. Did Obama write this speech? Did he not bother to Google “Emerald Isle”? Or, now that he’s out of office, he can’t afford good speechwriters or fact-checkers?
But even a child could have told him Scotland is not an “isle.” That should be obvious, to a former president. Has he never looked at Scotland on the map before? Did he not realize that Ireland and Scotland are two different countries?
Eh, those British lands are all the same, right Barry? Just a bunch of white people with funny accents talking about tea and crumpets. Oops, that’s England, right? How embarrassing!
