In addition to falling approval ratings for both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, rumors swirl about widespread unrest on Capitol Hill.
Some reports claim Biden and Harris don’t get along very well, while insiders have claimed Harris’ office is a “toxic” work environment. Several high-profile staffers have already quit.
Now, some of those staffers are speaking out — and they’ve revealed some concerning details.
Last week, Harris’ senior adviser Symone Sanders announced she’d leave her position by the end of the year. Reports added that other “key members” of the VP’s office are considering an early exit.
Prior to Sanders’ announcement, the Vice President’s communications director Ashley Etienne resigned, prompting more speculation about the general feeling in Harris’ office.
And as the year has progressed, various disturbing statements have continued to crop up. None of them paint Kamala Harris in a flattering light, and some say she doesn’t even put in the necessary work.
This is all coming to a head amid plummeting job performance ratings and rising hopes for Republicans in the 2022 midterm elections.
Back in June, Politico ran a story with a the following statement:
People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment.
It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s—.
Apparently, that might’ve just been the tip of the iceberg.
Later, another staffer told the Washington Post that Harris was nothing but a “bully,” who didn’t treat her employees with much respect. Her attitude and work ethic were also called into question.
These comments are rapidly turning heads around the country:
It’s clear that you’re not working with somebody who is willing to do the prep and the work.
With Kamala you have to put up with a constant amount of soul-destroying criticism and also her own lack of confidence.
So you’re constantly sort of propping up a bully and it’s not really clear why.
For her part, Vice President Harris has blamed her low approval ratings on racism and sexism in the past.
Other reports say she’s unhappy about not playing a large enough role in the Biden administration. Some insiders claim she’s resentful of being treated merely as a “figurehead” of sorts.
Critics will counter this by saying President Biden gave her the very big job of dealing with the border crisis — and absolutely nothing was done.
But regardless of the reasons, those around Harris are speaking out, and more and more are leaving.
So far, four members of her staff have announced they’re leaving by the end of 2021. Not all of them have revealed the reason for their departure, but many assume Harris’ declining popularity is the biggest issue.
This, and the apparent “toxic work environment” that more than one staffer has cited.

Recent polling has put Harris’ approval rating at 28 percent (with other polls varying in the 30s). When she first took office alongside Biden in January, her rating was up in the mid-to-high 40s.
Biden has also experienced a severe drop since that time as well.
And right now, Republicans are really liking their chances in the future, especially with more signs of Washington Democrats splintering. Harris’ office might be indicative of a larger “toxic” issue in D.C.
