Trump Catches A Major Break In FBI Case

The DOJ has pushed back on Trump’s request for a special master to review the documents the FBI took from his home.

It’s clear they don’t want an impartial person looking at the files they took from Mar-a-Largo. But the decision doesn’t rest with Biden’s DOJ.

But a judge that Trump himself appointed.

From The Wall Street Journal:

Former President Donald Trump’s request for a special master to vet documents FBI agents seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate last month is focusing a spotlight on a federal judge he appointed who is overseeing the matter…

Judge Cannon… indicated in a preliminary order that she was disposed to name a special master—typically a retired judge who reviews evidence to determine whether it is protected—but that the hearing will guide her final decision. It isn’t clear whether Judge Cannon will issue a ruling directly after the hearing, and any ruling she does issue could be appealed by either side.

How often have we heard that a Clinton-appointed or Obama-appointed judge overruled a case that impacted American lives?

How often have people speculated that these liberal-picked judges were using the bench for activism?

(That includes the very judge who approved the Mar-a-Largo raid in the first place.)

But now that a Trump-appointed judge is deciding this critical request, the liberal media are up in arms.

It doesn’t seem, though, that they will get what they want. Nor the DOJ.

Judge Aileen Cannon, who was appointed by Trump while president, is deciding on his request for a special master.

She issued a preliminary hearing before making a final decision. The DOJ strongly opposed this special master.

But Trump has maintained that Biden’s DOJ took documents protected by attorney-client privilege. Documents, it seems, that were not covered in the scope of their search warrant.

Never before in our nation’s history has the FBI raided a former president’s home. The matter was made worse by the fact that this FBI is being run by Trump’s political rivals.

Everything the DOJ has done has been tainted by suspicions of partisanism. Allowing a special master to oversee this process could go a long way in reassuring Americans that the FBI is doing the right thing.

But for the DOJ to be strongly pushing back only makes this look more suspicious.

Good thing an Obama judge won’t be making the call.

UPDATE: Judge Cannon has delayed the ruling, effectively pumping the breaks on a case the Justice Department seems to be trying to rush through as fast as possible. That’s a major problem just months before the midterm elections, and Cannon seems to have wisely made everyone slow down over the weighty implications of the DOJ’s actions against a former president.
